2009 Oscar Nominations are out. Avatar is tied with The Hurt Locker for most nominations, with 9 each, including Best Picture and Best Director for both. The ten nominees for Best Picture are:

Based on previous Oscars, most critics and analysts are expecting Avatar to sweep, even though The Hurt Locker has just as many nominations. The reason for these predictions is that the Oscars always favor the higher grossing movies that are nominated, meaning that Avatar, the highest grossing movie nominated, should win out heavily over The Hurt Locker, which is third from the bottom of the 10 nominees for total domestic gross. So to put it simply, even if the Academy members like The Hurt Locker more and think it's a better movie then Avatar, they're still more likely to give Avatar the award for Best Picture due to it's popularity. I guess anything could happen, this is the first Academy Awards since 1939 to have more then 5 nominees for Best Picture, so it's really up in the air ATM. |

James Cameron is crying inside right now...hahaha HIS EX WIFE BEAT HIM. The Hurt Locker pretty much kicked avatars ass all night long..im glad cause the Hurt Locker was a great F*cking movie.
